DIY Fabric Softener

As you know, I've been trying to rid of home of toxic cleaners that contain awful chemicals that are not only harmful to our bodies but also to the environment. So far we've replaced toxic all-purpose cleaners, most soaps, deodorant, lotions, and many of our medicines. We've been replacing them with naturally made products and many I have made myself using Essential Oils. I am working on replacing our laundry soap with homemade but I haven't found the right recipe. Either they are too sudsy, not sudsy enough, smell awful, or have no smell. More on that later. But I finally made an amazing fabric softener! It makes our clothes super soft, clean, and they smell amazing. I can choose to change the scent every time I make it. And the best part? It is only $.04 per load!!! Yes, you read that correctly! FOUR CENTS! Who wouldn't love that? This recipe lasts about 2 months or more depending on how much laundry you do. I generally do laundry twice a week, occasionally more.

DIY Fabric Softener

2 cups Epsom salts
1/2 cup baking soda
30+ drops of Essential Oil of your choice
(In this jar I used Citrus Fresh and Lemon.
But my other favorite is Lavender and Eucalyptus. Yum!)

Combine Epsom salts and essential oil drops in a bowl. Add baking soda and stir well. Put the mixture in an air tight glass jar. Use 2 tbsp per load straight into the washer with your clothes. That's all! Pretty easy, huh?

I also wanted to give my readers a chance to try some out for themselves. If you are local, you have a chance to win that small jar of fabric softener made with Essential Oils by yours truly. All you have to do is leave a comment (on this blog post) telling me what you have or what you would replace first in your home with essential oils. Also, you still have until April 31st to get $20 back when you join my team and purchase a premium starter kit! Follow this link to learn more about these oils and how you can sign up.
