Peanut Butter Bird Feeders

Did you ever make these bird feeders in school? I remember making them and thought they would be fun and easy (and messy) to make for our front porch. Ryder has loved watching birds this spring so we have these hanging right in front of our windows. We've already seen a few different birds on them.

What you will need:
empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls
peanut butter
bird seed
string

Spread the peanut butter on the paper rolls. This part was good fine motor practice for Ryder. We have been working on cutting and spreading with plastic knives. I love these children's flatware from IKEA. They are perfect size and super durable! He has gotten very good at cutting. Spreading is still a bit hard, specially when it's sticky peanut butter. But he loved it!

Once the paper rolls are covered in peanut butter, roll them in the bird seed. More bird seed ended up on the floor and across the room thanks to a certain toddler.

Once they have been covered in bird seed let them sit for a few minutes so that the peanut butter can dry and harden a bit. Then tie a piece of twine or string through the roll and hang outside. Ryder immediately started looking for birds once we got them hung on the porch. He was so excited when he spotted one flying by.

  1. I'll say it again -- you are such a good mommy, so creative and don't mind messes. Is that my great niece, Abigail, helping out?
