Rawwwr! DIY Volcano

If your kids are anything like mine then your house is quickly starting to look and sound like a scene straight out of history books. Ryder has developed a love for all things dinosaurs thanks to the new Jurassic World movie in theaters. While we will not be going to the theater to see the new movie we are definitely spending all of our time playing and learning about dinosaurs and their time period. The new movie looks too scary for my little guy so we will wait until it is released on video to watch it. But Ryder has been watching the first Jurassic World and loves it! It was love at first sight with the raptor Blue and T Rex. I myself love Blue and the Mosasaurus.

I have taken advantage of this new passion and we have been learning so much! Ryder's favorite things to learn about are all the different dinosaurs, how mosquitoes became trapped in amber, and volcanoes! I've turned all of these into fun games and learning experiences.

Ryder loves to build these simple volcanoes and have them erupt while playing with his dinosaurs. He plays out scenes from the new Jurassic World movie trailer and saves all of the dinosaurs before the lava can get to them. We have gone through a lot of baking soda and vinegar for this activity.

What You'll Need:
flat container
paper plate
aluminum foil
cup
red food coloring
baking soda
white vinegar

How To Make An Eruption
1. Turn the paper plate upside down and place the cup on top.
2. Cover with aluminum foil, but leave the cup open on top.
3. Scoop 1/2 cup baking soda into cup and add 3 drops of food coloring.
4. Pour 1/2 cup vinegar into cup and water the magic happen!
5. You can repeat this over and over until you run out of baking soda and vinegar.
