One thing Ryder and I love doing on Wednesday mornings is visiting our local Farmer's Market. I love the fresh veggies, fruits, herbs, plants, flowers, soaps, breads...the list goes on. Ryder loves all of the samples that he has managed to receive and of course he loves when people bring their dogs. I also enjoy that it is held on the streets downtown. So not only do you get to see all of the vendors but there is also music being played by local artists, food trucks, and local shops and cafes downtown are open as well.
We head there bright and early and walk up and down looking at all of the produce and products, picking out which ones we like best. Then we enjoy a yummy treat from one of the cafes.
I'm always looking for ways to teach Ryder why we shop at the local market. I've put together some of our favorite things that help do just that!
BAGGU bag | These are the perfect size to hold all of the produce that we pick up at the market. They are so roomy and durable. They are also easy to clean and care for! The only down side is that it's so hard to chose between all of the colors and patterns.
reusable produce bags | These screen printed bags are not only my favorite for the market but I also love them in the grocery store. I use them for our produce instead of those plastic bags they provide.
orange onesie (also sold in tank top) | So fun and so adorable!
pineapple tee | Because pineapple is the best!
insulated basket | And you should always have a cooler to keep your produce chilly, specially if it is pushing 100 degrees where you live.
Farmer's Market may be a bit more expensive than buying things at the grocery store, but they are so much more healthier and you are really helping out your local community by putting money back into foods and products made and grown where you live. Plus it is such a fun learning experience for children! I am excited to make homemade salsa, pies, breads, pizza, pasta sauces, soups + stews, and so many other things this year from the produce that we buy this year with Ryder. Getting kids into the kitchen is an amazing way to get them to be more excited about eating healthy. What are some of your favorite recipes with produce from the market?
