Okay, so technically this recipe came from Betty Crocker's Cookbook. You know, the really old red-orange book that everyone's mom & grandma has. Well, my family does it a little differently than Betty's recipe. The book says to use beef chunks but we use ground beef. Either way it is delicious & is by for a family favorite that I am so excited to pass on to Ryder.
Hungarian Goulash
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 medium to large onion diced
1 clove garlic
1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2 teaspoons salt
1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (depends on how spicy you want it)
1/4 cup cold water
2 tablespoons flour
boiled noodles (I normally use short wave noodles but I was out when I made this)
1. Brown beef with onions & garlic.
2. Add 1 1/2 cups water, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, paprika, salt, & cayenne pepper to meet mixture.
3. Bring to boil then let simmer covered for 5 minutes.
4. Add 1/4 cup cold water & 2 tablespoons flour in a small bowl. Mix until a smooth paste.
5. Add flour paste to meat mixture & stir well.
6. Let simmer covered for another 5 minutes.
7. Serve over boiled noodles & top with cheese!
Have a great St. Patrick's Day!
Don't party too hard ;)
